Look for the upside down Noble House Chinese Restaurant sign.
Contrabando is a unique restaurant found in the heart of Sydney CBD taking its inspiration from the Mexican flavours and traditions of migrant Southern Californians & Texans in America with a subtle hint from our neighbours in the East.
Why “Contrabando”? Well, its location is subterranean, and its frontage is covered in graffiti. Call it a name that’s more cheeky than it is actually serious. but make no mistake, the food here is very serious, though with a playful cheek that carries from the staff through to the food.
At Contrabando, following the trend in Southern CaIifornia - new style cooking techniques meet old-school Latin American flavours. Match that with Sydney’s best produce, and it’s definitely worth the trip to Bent Street just for the Yellowfin Tuna Ceviche 'Tostadas', Prawn Dawgs with Sriracha Mayo, Cheeseburger Quesadillas or the Korean Popcorn Chicken Tacos
Don't forget about our freshly whipped 'Truck Stop' Guacamole or our famous Chargrilled Corn with Housemade Queso Fresco, Chipotle Mayo & Spices.
Contrabando is a moodily lit affair, with walls covered in a mural by renowned sydney artist Arnie Arnold. It’s well suited to business lunches, intimate dinner events, or for a late-night snack as you journey around town.
We are located directly below Barrafina Tapas, with entrance just to the side around the corner on Bent St.
Look for the graffitied walls, the black doors. Blink and you might miss it.
